Grenoside Primary

Early Years Foundation Stage

Welcome to Early Years

We would like your child to have a very happy and successful first year with us as they start their educational journey at Grenoside Community Primary School.

FSDB | Miss Bond (Thur - Fri)

Morning Routine

We ask that you do not enter the classrooms once your child is attending full time at school. This is because parents of the next group of children will be helping their child to settle. This is different to our usual approach and we will work with you for the needs of your child however, as a result of the recent pandemic we need to limit the number of people in the classroom. We really appreciate your support and understanding in this matter.

An interactive whiteboard will detail an activity to work on, the menu choice for lunch time and a visual timetable will display the events of the day.

What do we need each day?

Please ensure your child brings to school their coat each day.

We do try to go out whatever the weather so a waterproof is essential. We would also request that children keep a pair of wellies in school. We often like to go on adventures around school and wellies help to keep the school (and your school shoes!) clean and tidy. Please ensure all items are clearly named.

Home reading

In Early Years Foundation Stage, we encourage reading as much as possible to help children in their first stages of learning, to work towards them becoming confident and able readers.  We aim to still send reading books and lists of key words home

Please encourage your child to read on a daily basis (where possible!) for a short time. Usually, we would send home a reading record to write notes when the children have read, this then acts as a two-way dialogue between home and school to share positive achievements and reading targets. However, we will not be introducing these at the start of the year to minimise the amount of items sent home. We will introduce these as and when we feel it is safe to do so

PE days

Mrs Mason | Thursday

Mr Dryden / Miss Bond | Thursday

Please send your child to school in their PE kit for the above days.   This is because we aim to reduce items coming to and from school

PE kits should include a white T-shirt, navy shorts and pumps.  In colder weather please use jogging bottoms and jumpers/hoodies in similar colours. Please ensure all items are named. Long hair will need to be tied up. As well as in discrete PE lessons, children have continuous opportunities for physical development in the outdoor area of provision as they have access to a range of sporting equipment and balancing and climbing apparatus. Jewellery should not be worn for PE - please remove this on PE days.

Educational visits

Under latest guidance all Educational Visits are allowed to take place however for the short term we will take a cautious approach.  We follow robust Risk Assessments including Covid-safe measures from the Local Authority.  Please keep up to date with your child's Google Classroom page and Newsletters to find out what's coming up.

Please look out and keep your eyes peeled for updates on parent workshops.

For these sessions, we usually invite parents in to school to enable them to learn more about the way in which children learn so you are able to build upon the learning which we when you are at home.  This may look different under our 'new normal' and we will update when we can.
